As well as being one of the most popular arctic sports, it’s also one of the most traditional. Since antiquity, snowshoeing has been the primary mode of transportation in the Arctic. Since its discovery, Antarctica has been a popular destination for both scientists and polar visitors. For obvious reasons, snowshoes make walking in the snow much more possible and pleasant, and why snowshoe hiking is popular.

Snowshoes are also a fantastic way to view the outdoors while getting a good cardio exercise if you’re in the polar areas. If you want to enjoy the excellent onboard food guilt-free, this is the way to go.

Snowshoeing has a rich history.

In Central Asia, snowshoes have been used for at least 4,000 to 6,000 years. Winter boots were a must-have item for trappers, traders, and anybody else who lived in the far north. For the time, snowshoes were a primitive affair, having a wooden frame and rawhide lacings. Many keen snowshoers still rely only on wooden equipment. That’s because hardwood frames don’t freeze as quickly and are less noisy in the snow.

Snowshoeing May Be Done With Normal Polar Clothing.

For snowshoeing, the same clothes you bring for an Antarctic or Arctic vacation are excellent. If you live in a cold or rainy area, cotton clothing is an unwise choice since it is not insulating and takes a long time to dry out after being wet. As you work up a sweat, we recommend wearing layers so you can remove or add clothes as the weather changes.

As a foundation layer, use long underwear made of synthetic or wool that is insulating and dries fast. Use a synthetic or wool insulating layer over the foundation layer to maintain body heat. As a final layer, wear a waterproof and breathable shell jacket.

When you snowshoe, you get great exercise!

Snowshoeing and hiking in Switzerland is a great way to get in shape. In addition to calorie burning, snowshoeing improves cardiovascular health. Snowshoeing may burn up to 45 percent more calories than walking or jogging at the same pace.
